Since Kinetico decentralised their trade business in 2009, we have stepped up our involvement in assisting plumbers, heating engineers and the kitchen and bathroom trades with residential water treatment systems.

More and more demand is being generated by home owners wanting a water softener installed along with their new boiler, kitchen or bathroom. Some companies are geared up for this which must be applauded. Others unfortunately struggle with the technology. Some avoid getting involved altogether while others give the business away. This is a shame when there is good money to be made, in some cases, with little effort.

What has become apparent is that many are unsure how to advise their clients. This is hardly surprising as our industry is not that well understood and although web sites are helping to make people more aware of what softeners can do, the technical differences and pricing are often poorly interpreted.

We are taking a slightly different view with trade sales. We probably would not want to say it is a “hold your hand” approach, but it does give companies the chance of knowing more, with guidance and assistance provided as and when required.
