A Guide To Buying A Water Softener
Every month Aqua-Nouveau receives telephone calls requesting we install and/or commission a water softener purchased from another source. In some cases we can help, but it is not possible for us to get involved in all competitive products and guarantees which, for the most part, we cannot support.
These calls do not surprise us. We have found that many ‘over the counter’ and ‘on-line’ suppliers are prepared offer discounts, but fail to advise customers that site circumstances, installation and commissioning needs to be ascertained prior to purchase (see case study - Aquafacts 17). This is compounded by the relatively few plumbers who have knowledge about water treatment, the plumbing implications, associated bylaws and set up procedures.
With plumbing and heating systems becoming more complex, we believe an understanding of site conditions to be essential to the type of installation and recommendations that need to be made. We think it unwise to buy a water softener ‘off the shelf’.
The first step should be gaining information about water pressure and flow rate within a property. The type and size of product, related to positioning, can then be ascertained. Even the location and plumbing runs associated with an outside tap need to be considered. Surprisingly, capacity of the machine and local water hardness are of secondary importance.
We always undertake a site survey before recommending a water softener. This is a service we offer to all prospective buyers whether it’s a DIY install or a fitting through one of our own engineers. It is a FREE service and there is no obligation. Our technical advisors often take dummy machines into a home to check that they will fit into a particular location. A quotation can then be given for either a standard or high flow installation.
High water pressure is a growing problem across the region and many installations need a pressure reducing valve. DIY kits can be made up to special requirements.
We can provide softeners for ‘new build’. There is no VAT to pay if fitted prior to completion. We also supply a number of specific trade outlets so if the installation has to be tied into a building project or commercial scheme then special supply and fitting arrangements can often be made.
Aqua-Nouveau can offer financial alternatives including rental. Guarantees are a minimum of two years.
To arrange a free site survey, to obtain further details and/or a literature pack, on water softeners, telephone Basingstoke (01256) 844044 or complete the enquiries and feedback page.
Please note: Aqua-Nouveau normally only operates in North Hampshire and the Thames Valley. It is unusual for us to sell elsewhere as generally we are unable to support guarantee obligations in other parts of the country. For clarification please speak with us.
